Sundarban is situated in West Bengal, India is a well-known tourist destination. It is a type of tourist destination that is naturally developed by God. Yes, later it was arranged by the tourism department on the demand of tourists. It is located in the eastern region of West Bengal and shares borders with both India and Bangladesh. Basically, the Sundarbans is a delta of about 2500 sq. Km which is the confluence of three major rivers namely Ganga, Brahmaputra, and Meghan. 

Sundarban is a place where the largest mangrove forest is found in the world. Also, it is the world’s largest Delta. Thousands of meandering streams, creeks, and rivers have increased it’s attractions for miles, while tall trees form an unbroken wall, while on land, the tidal action of high and low tides marked in the soil and the many types of natural mangrove forests offer much to the research visitor. 

It is known as the queen of the tourist place in India for the following reasons:-

  • Location           

It’s found in the Eastern part of India and South Western part of Bangladesh. It is speared full of mangrove forest. The Sundarbans, formed by the Ganga, Brahmaputra, and Meghana rivers, is the world’s largest delta region. About one-third part of the total area of ​​this forest is covered by river channels and tidal rivers that vary in width from a few meters to a few kilometers. It is dominated by the high Mangrove forest of India and Bangladesh, where the climate is tropical with monsoon rains and cool to mild winters. It is windy in this area.

  • The history of Sundarban         

The past of the region can be traced back to 200-300 AD. The name Sundarban can be derived from ‘hental forest’ in Bengali meaning ‘forbidden’ forest and the word ‘beautiful'(Sundari) may be derived from the word beautiful. ‘Hental’ tree(mangrove) which has been found in large numbers in the Sundarbans area. Alternatively, it has been suggested that its name was Samadraban or the Chandra-Bandar tribe. The name was converted into Sundarbans later.

After the establishment of the Forest Department in British India in 1860, tractors were systematically managed in this forest. The first forest department was established here in 1869. In 1875, a large part of the forest was declared as a reserved forest under the Forest Act, of 1865. The Sundarbans have been announced as three wildlife sanctuaries in 1997. It becomes a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

  • Sundarban is a place where five rivers meet. 

The five rivers found in Sundarbans are the Malta River, Bidyadhari River, Balaswari River, Saptamukhi River, Raimangal River, etc. These rivers are so beautiful and so calm and Sundarbans is the place where they converge. So that it is called the beauty of queen for tourists. 

  • The Royal Bengal tiger is found here. 

Royal Bengal Tiger is definitely a huge attraction of Sundarbans, as these tigers are found only in Sundarbans and nowhere else. They were protected by a huge security system. 

  • Flora and Funal found in Sundarban. 

Sundarban is the only place where a variety of animals and trees are found here. While the vegetation is mainly mangrove type. It contains epiphytes, lianas, shrubs, and various types of plants. Mangroves and Zia are important trees in this area. This tree is evergreen. 

Whereas a total of 315 species have been recorded, including 315 species of waterfowl and 38 species of raptors. The largest number of Royal Bengal Tiger is found here.

  • Popular local culture in Sundarban:

The entrance area was celebrated through many Bengali folk dances and songs, often centering on folk heroes, gods, and goddesses it makes specific to the Sundarbans.
